A concept design for a beach restaurant: a long 1:4 rectangle turned into an experience — the central bar as anchor, distance as luxury, a round table as the social magnet.
The identity comes from a simple question: how can a space be recognisable through the logic of movement, a hierarchy of views, and the calm a guest feels the moment they sit down? The name “Galija” — galley — carries a story: a long, narrow ship rowed by captives, with rows of benches. The image was used not as a metaphor but as a warning: a long form easily becomes linear and “captive” for the seats at its far end. Our task was to turn a long 1:4 rectangle into an experience, so that every seat gets the position it deserves — a plan is good when it is invisible.
The bar's central position is conceived first as a functional zone (service), not as a classic bar to sit at. The restaurant's visual identity is set by the main and only formative wall — the wall that “holds” the concept, creates recognition and becomes the point of reference by day and by night. It is a stage in itself.
A restaurant's elegance does not come from expensive materials, but from empty space. Distance is a luxury you can see even when you do not measure it. The intimacy of the room is built further with natural olive trees between the tables — they do not divide aggressively; they simply calm the space.
A long rectangle tends to make the corner seat a sad one, especially when nothing justifies that part of the room. So we introduce a large round table for 8–10 people, with emphasised lighting for that zone alone: an “island” for gathering, celebrations, family dinners. The round table changes the view: nobody is “at the end of the row”; everyone is equally present.
